1. Who We Are
MoneyRanked Ltd ("MoneyRanked", "we", "us", or "our") operates the website MoneyRanked.com, a UK-based financial comparison and information service. We are registered in England and Wales and act as the data controller for any personal data collected through this website.
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or the way we handle your personal data, please contact our dedicated privacy team:
- Company name: MoneyRanked Ltd
- Email: [email protected]
- Website: www.moneyranked.com
We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and all applicable data protection legislation. We will only use your personal data in the ways described in this policy.
2. Data We Collect
We collect only the minimum personal data necessary to provide and improve our services. We do not collect, process, or store any sensitive financial data such as bank account numbers, credit card details, or credit scores. The categories of data we may collect include:
- Browsing & usage data: Pages visited, time spent on site, referring URLs, links clicked, search queries entered on our site, browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and device type. This data is collected automatically when you visit our website.
- Cookies & tracking technologies: We use cookies, pixel tags, and similar technologies to recognise your browser, remember your preferences, and understand how you interact with our site. Please see Section 5 (Cookies) for full details.
- IP address & approximate location: Your IP address is automatically transmitted to our servers and third-party analytics providers when you access the site. We use this to determine your approximate geographic region (country/city level only) and to detect fraudulent or abusive behaviour.
- Email address: If you subscribe to our newsletter, create an account, or contact us directly, we will collect your email address and any other information you voluntarily provide (e.g. your name or the content of your message).
- Newsletter & communication preferences: Records of your marketing opt-ins and opt-outs, including the date and method of consent, so we can honour your communication preferences.
- Affiliate click data: When you click on a comparison link or affiliate offer on our site, we record anonymised click events (timestamp, product clicked, referring page) to measure the performance of our listings. We do not receive any personal financial data from the third-party providers you visit.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will take steps to delete it promptly.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
Under Article 6 of the UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis before we can process your personal data. We rely on the following bases, depending on the purpose of processing:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): We process browsing and usage data, IP addresses, and anonymised analytics data to operate and improve our website, prevent fraud, maintain security, and measure the effectiveness of our content and affiliate partnerships. We have conducted a Legitimate Interests Assessment (LIA) and are satisfied that our interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms. You may object to this processing at any time (see Section 7).
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): Where we set non-essential cookies (analytics and marketing cookies) or send you marketing emails, we rely on your freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous consent. You may withdraw your consent at any time by adjusting your cookie preferences via our Cookie Consent banner or by clicking "unsubscribe" in any marketing email we send.
- Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)): If you register for an account or subscribe to a paid service, we process your data to the extent necessary to fulfil our contractual obligations to you, including account management and service delivery.
- Compliance with a legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)): Where we are required by law to retain or disclose certain data (for example, for tax, accounting, or regulatory purposes), we will do so in accordance with our legal obligations.
We will always tell you which legal basis applies when we collect your data. Where we rely on consent, you have the right to withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.
4. Third Parties We Share Data With
We work with carefully selected third-party service providers who may have access to certain personal data in order to provide their services to us. We do not sell your personal data to any third party. Our third-party relationships include:
- Google Analytics (Google LLC): We use Google Analytics to collect and analyse anonymised website usage statistics, including page views, session duration, traffic sources, and user behaviour flows. Data is transmitted to Google's servers and processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. We have enabled IP anonymisation so that full IP addresses are not stored. Google acts as a data processor on our behalf under a Data Processing Addendum. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Affiliate networks & financial partners: We partner with affiliate networks and financial product providers to display comparison listings and earn referral fees. When you click an outbound affiliate link, you will be directed to the third-party provider's website and subject to their own privacy policy. We may share anonymised click and referral data with affiliate networks to track conversions, but we do not share your identifiable personal data with financial partners without your explicit consent.
- Google Fonts (Google LLC): Our website uses Google Fonts to render typography. When you visit a page that uses a Google Font, your browser may make a request to Google's servers (fonts.googleapis.com), which may result in your IP address being transmitted to Google. We have self-hosted our primary fonts wherever possible to minimise this data transfer. Where Google Fonts are loaded externally, this is done on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing a visually consistent user experience.
- Email service provider (ESP): We use a third-party ESP to manage our newsletter and transactional email communications. Your email address and communication preferences are stored securely with our ESP, who acts as a data processor on our behalf.
- Hosting & infrastructure providers: Our website is hosted on cloud infrastructure. Our hosting provider processes server logs and technical data as a data processor on our behalf under appropriate contractual safeguards.
- Legal & regulatory authorities: We may disclose personal data to law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies (such as the ICO), or courts where we are legally required to do so or where necessary to protect our legal rights.
All third-party data processors are bound by contractual obligations (Data Processing Agreements) requiring them to process personal data only on our documented instructions, to implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures, and to comply with UK GDPR.
5. Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to make our website work correctly, understand how it is used, and to show you relevant content. When you first visit MoneyRanked.com, you will be presented with a Cookie Consent banner allowing you to accept or decline non-essential cookies.
The cookies we use fall into three categories:
- Strictly necessary / functional cookies: These cookies are essential for the website to function correctly. They enable core features such as page navigation, security, remembering your cookie consent preferences, and maintaining your session if you are logged in. These cookies cannot be disabled without significantly impairing the functionality of the site. They are set on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating the website and do not require your consent under PECR.
- Analytics cookies: We use analytics cookies (including those set by Google Analytics) to collect anonymised information about how visitors use our site — such as which pages are most visited, how long users spend on each page, and how they navigate between pages. This helps us understand user behaviour and improve our content and user experience. Analytics cookies are only set with your prior consent.
- Marketing & advertising cookies: Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across websites and to display relevant advertisements and personalised offers. They may be set by us or by third-party advertising networks. These cookies record that you have visited our site and may share this information with advertisers. Marketing cookies are only set with your prior consent, and you may withdraw consent at any time via our cookie preference centre.
You can manage, update, or withdraw your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of our website. You can also control cookies through your browser settings; however, disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of the site. For more information about cookies and how to manage them, visit www.allaboutcookies.org.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by applicable law. Our specific retention periods are as follows:
- Website analytics data: Aggregated and anonymised analytics data is retained for up to 26 months in Google Analytics, in line with Google's default retention settings. Raw server access logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.
- Email addresses (newsletter subscribers): We retain your email address and communication preferences for as long as you remain subscribed to our newsletter. If you unsubscribe, we will remove your email address from active mailing lists within 30 days. We retain a suppression record of your email address to ensure we do not contact you again after opt-out.
- Contact and enquiry data: If you contact us by email, we retain correspondence for up to 2 years to allow us to respond to follow-up queries and to demonstrate compliance with our obligations.
- Affiliate click data: Anonymised click and conversion records are retained for up to 3 years for the purposes of affiliate commission reconciliation and financial record-keeping.
- Cookie consent records: Records of your cookie consent preferences (including timestamp and consent version) are retained for up to 3 years to demonstrate compliance with PECR and UK GDPR consent requirements.
